Well Slugger fans, the RGSA has had another successful opening day at the Charlie McVay Memorial Softball Complex. We had the National Anthem performed by the very talented Laura Lucero – Carrillo.
Laura did an amazing job so we’ll forgive her for not wearing green.
After the opening prayer was provided by Pastor Savino Sanchez the RGSA presented a $500 donation check to the Chaves County Cancer Fund’s Walk For Hope. The $500 was generated from last fall’s Knocking Breast Cancer Out of the Park Softball Tournament.
We introduced our current RGSA board members and unfortunately I totally skipped over board member Andrew Manzanares. I want to apologize to Drew for that, Sorry Man…
Finally, our opening pitch was thrown by Goddard High School’s JV pitcher Jordan Rincon to Roswell High’s JV catcher Mercedes Guevara.
Just in case you don’t recognize them, they are both products of the Sluggers Softball Team.
We are extremely proud of these two Sluggers and all of the Sluggers playing ball for the high schools.
With coaches Angie, Ambrosio and Drew in charge of the 14U team we had no doubt of the outcome of their two games and they did not disappoint. Of course the 14U Sluggers rocked opening day with two back-to-back wins. We expect nothing less…
Our 6U Sluggers also had a big day. Their very first game – ever. These tiny Sluggers have been working hard, practicing and learning everything they can about softball. One of my favorite things that they learned so far – GAME FACE.
No, unfortunately the 6U Sluggers didn’t win their first game. But that’s okay. A whole lot of fun was had and they picked up some valuable experience as well.
Here are just a few photos of Saturday’s 6U game. You can see all of the photos of these future high school all stars by going to our brand new flickr account or just click on one of the pictures.
Game two is this evening. 6:00pm – be there with your green on…
